After such a long winter it was great to start our season with reasonable weather on the beautiful scenery of Cannock Chase. It was the venue for one of our early rambles before the days of the MSU or our trailer tent/toilet. John Cuthbertson had done an excellent job of surveying an interesting route which was enhanced by a local guide who gave us much information about the area & its history. A couple of new members joined the group & had no problems on the well surfaced tracks Any challenging sections of the ramble were easily overcome with so many helpers on hand to assist some riders when needed. Even the prospect of negotiating a ford presented no problems especoally when Dorothy noticed it had ” a firm bottom!”. Plenty of “comfort stations” on the route avoided the need to erect the toilet tent at lunch time, which was spent in relative shelter from the cool wind near a picturesque stream.
