Gisburn forest is in Lancashire – but used to be in Yorkshire so we learned today. The area used to be farmland but the water company who built Stocks Reservoir had the Sitka Spruce forest planted to help retain and moderate the release of rainwater. You might have guessed by now that we had several excellent talks about the area from the team of Rangers led by Tarja Wilson from Lancashire Countryside Services. Quite remarkable was that we had 28 scooters on the ramble – 25 of them Trampers.
