Disabled Ramblers were there to see Roy Taylor off on his Coast to Coast Challenge.

RSPB Area Manager, Roy Taylor, has started his 215 mile trek from Southport on a power chair along the Trans Pennine Trail to Hornsea on the East Coast. The rain held off as we gathered together and the BBC filmed this auspicious occasion. This will be no mean feat as we know there are many manmade barriers along the way. BBC NW were there to film and interview participants about the access issues that wheelchair and scooter users face. Roy, who suffers from Motor Neuron Disease is doing this Challenge to raise awareness of the manmade barriers. The funds he collects will be used to make as many RSPB reserves fully accessible as possible. His report and audit will be given to the powers that manage the cycle trail and hopefully they will take on board any recommendations he makes. Interviews with Roy will be on BBC NW …this can be reached through BBC iplayer if you are not in this region. We will post the link when we have it.
