SOUTHERN REGIONAL RAMBLE – Friday 7th October, 2016 at
FOXBURY, EAST WELLOW, HAMPSHIRE.
Foxbury is a 150 hectare area of conservation on the edge of East Wellow near Romsey, Hampshire, (and the New Forest) it was acquired in 2005 by the National Trust through Grantscape funding and the site which was then a commercial conifer plantation is gradually being returned to the natural heathland habitat it once was. It is criss crossed with tracks and there are wonderful views across the surrounding area, it is only accessible by appointment and we approached the NT re a ramble with the result that they are delighted for Disabled Ramblers to hold a regional ramble there. This is approximately 4.5 miles, and is a Cat 2+, not difficult but a few lumps and bumps. There is a chance of a pub lunch afterwards but this is not definite – a reccy still required to see if this is feasible.
