23rd January 2022
It is with a heavy heart that I write to tell you of the death of Chris Lyon.
Chris joined the Disabled Ramblers in 2010 and came on many rambles all over the country with her husband Ron.
We came in contact with Chris and Ron as fellow organisers in the North. Chris was always determined to ramble despite having very severely disabilities which she coped with amazing stoicism and with fantastic support from Ron.
We rambled with Chris many times particularly up in the northwest where Ron organised many rambles. Their Motorhome was a familiar sight and not been satisfied with exploring UK they regularly took it across the Channel to explore France.
Chris set an example to us all to continue to experience the Great Outdoors whatever the difficulties. Our sympathies to Ron. Jill & Hugh Williamson
So sad to hear this news of Chris. For more than ten years she and Ron have been quiet cornerstones of DR, doing heaps of work for us without any fuss and, I suspect, without many people knowing about it.
With Chris’s support Ron has been the go-to person for production and distribution of DR literature, and they were always willing to give technical advance and support, drawing on hard won experience of their search for the best heavy duty buggy for Chris’s needs.
Our thoughts are with Ron at such a sad time. Jan & Stuart Kemp
So sorry to hear this sad news. Chris and Ron were the first people from DR that Chris and I met on our first Ramble above Ullswater. We met them many times after that, so full of enthusiasm and determination to keep on Rambling. We will never forget that as it was such an inspiration. Kind regards, Chris & Doreen Greening
So sorry to hear about Chris. Bob McLellan
