The Department for Transport are consulting on possible changes to powered mobility device regulations until 22nd April 2026. The consultation questions cover all powered and unpowered mobility devices, from wheelchairs and mobility scooters to power attachments, e-scooters and cycles. This consultation could finally replace the UK’s outdated “invalid carriage” laws, giving Disabled people equal pedestrian, cycling and cycling-equivalent mobility rights to non-disabled people. Done badly, new laws could stop positive changes from happening or even make mobility options for Disabled people worse than they are now.
