On 26th March Jonathan (Disabled Ramblers’ Secretary) attended the Coast to Coast National Trail opening ceremony at Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales. There had been previous events at either end of the trail (from St Bees in the West to Robin Hood’s Bay in the East), but this one focused on the people who had been instrumental in converting the trail into a National Trail, some of which were presented with commemorative finger posts. There was also an unveiling of a stone marker post that will be placed half way along the trail.
Paula had been the DR representative on the external stakeholders’ committee, and Hazel Thomas thanked her for her contribution. Well done Paula.
The speeches were followed up with a walk along the River Swale, which was notable by not being scooter accessible(!), but the section along the Coast to Coast trail looked great.
Here are some photos you might find interesting including Hazel Thomas with David Butterworth, Derek Cockell with Rishi Sunak all of whom have been instrumental in the creation of this, our newest National Trail.
