Tramper, known as the ‘Land Rover’ of the disabled world, is built in Britain specifically to meet the needs of the Disabled Ramblers.

On Tramper’s website, there is a list of sites where Trampers can be hired.

Countryside Mobility

— Countryside Mobility’s membership (£15 per year) gives free use of their Trampers at over fifty of their locations across Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset, and Herefordshire as well as those operated by Outdoor Mobility.

Forestry England (was called the Forestry Commission) has several sites with Trampers for hire.

Lancashire has seven locations with Trampers for hire in the county.

Morecambe Bay

— Additional information, including all the locations with Trampers for hire and accessible trails are available on this Ways Around the Bay page.

National Trust

— National Trust’s Access Guide provides information about Tramper and other scooters for use at many of their properties. Also listed are locations with Mountain Trikes. Other useful information includes sites with Changing Places toilets.

Outdoor Mobility

— Outdoor Mobility’s membership (£15 per year) gives free use of their Trampers at the following areas: Cheshire, Lake District, North York Moors, North Pennines, Northumberland, and Yorkshire as well as those operated by Countryside Mobility.

Queen Elizabeth Country Park at Gravel Hill, Horndean (PO8 0QE) within the South Downs National Park offers Trampers for hire and is one of the several accessible sites in Hampshire.

South Downs National Park

— South Downs National Park has helped in making inclusive equipment available for hire, including Trampers, other scooters and accessible bikes at several locations within the park.

Wandlebury Country Park in Cambridge offers a Tramper for hire.


Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park has developed of a series of Tramper-friendly routes.

Mountain Trike offers rugged go-anywhere wheelchairs.

There are several locations across the UK that have Mountain Trike products available for the public to try or hire.

Access the Dales has up “hubs” across the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland from where various chairs and scooters can be borrowed.


1st Elgin Scout Group has a Magic Mobility Xtreme X8 Off-Road Powerchair for a suggested donation of £10 a day or £50 a week. It includes a road trailer to tow to your chosen location or they will tow it for you. Example routes are the Dava Way and Speyside Way.

– Carradale Bikes and Buggies has a Tramper and a smaller scooter for hire. Please contact them at brodietech@yahoo.co.uk (an email address was given as their website is being transitioned; also see their reviews on Trip Advisor).

— Carradale is a small village on the east coast of the Kintyre peninsula overlooking the Kilbrannan Sound and Arran.


Shopmobility has scooters based at several Country Parks.


Jo Southall is an Independent Occupational Therapist who is a wheelchair user and has created this map of places which hire out Trampers, BOMAs, other scooters and Mountain Trikes. The locations might be out of date, so please check before traveling.
