Salcey Forest is a medieval hunting forest managed by the Forestry Commission. It was grey skies in which we started our ramble this morning, but it soon brightened up, and the heavy showers didn’t arrive until the end of the ramble. Twelve, including several new members, set off from the visitor centre along gravel tracks and through trees passing the Tree Walk. The afternoon route took us close to and parallel with the M1 motorway which we could hear but not see. We continued along a disused road before crossing Forest Road and Wootton Road and back into the forest area where we had been in the morning.
